In a new study, men and women were more likely to report infidelity, or cheating — often a marriage or relationship deal-breaker — when they also experienced an increased sensitivity for sexual performance problems and a decreased likelihood to lose their sexual arousal in the face of risk or danger.

The Kinsey Institute Juried Art Show 2010
Artists from 24 states and three other countries will display their artwork beginning on May 28 in The Kinsey Institute Juried Art Show 2010, held for the second year in the School of Fine Arts Gallery at Indiana University Bloomington. The contemporary art exhibition features paintings, prints, photographs, ceramics, wearable art, metalwork, books, sculpture, fiber art and video installations by a mix of local, national and international artists.

Art and science: Joshua Bell, opening his home for Kinsey fundraising event, honors his father
Joshua Bell, Musical America's 2010 Instrumentalist of the Year, opened his New York loft for a concert to benefit Indiana University's The Kinsey Institute. The event honored Bell's father, Alan Bell, who was a research scientist at The Kinsey Institute from 1967-1981. "Like the institute, our family's legacy combines arts and music, science and health," said Shirley Bell. "My husband would have been thrilled by this tribute."

German filmmaker Monika Treut to spend two months teaching, curating films at IU Bloomington
Acclaimed German filmmaker Monika Treut is in residency at Indiana University Bloomington through the end of October, where she's teaching an interdisciplinary graduate seminar with Assistant Professor Brigitta Wagner. While at IU Bloomington, Treut will attend numerous classes across campus; present one of the IU Cinema's Jorgensen Lectures (Oct. 21); show a retrospective of her work (Oct. 22 to 24); and, with Wagner and her students, curate an evening of rare shorts from the historical film collection of the Kinsey Institute for Research on Sex, Gender and Reproduction (Oct. 25).

Mapplethorpe Foundation donates photographs to The Kinsey Institute
The Kinsey Institute for Research in Sex, Gender, and Reproduction announced today a gift of 30 photographs by Robert Mapplethorpe, one of the best known and most influential photographers of the 20th century. This gift from The Robert Mapplethorpe Foundation includes arresting portraits and powerful images documenting the sexual lives of people in Mapplethorpe's circle in the 1970s and early 1980s.

New study highlights sexual behavior and condom use in the U.S. among individuals ages 14 to 94
Findings from the largest nationally representative study of sexual and sexual-health behaviors ever fielded, conducted by Indiana University sexual health researchers, provides an updated and much needed snapshot of contemporary Americans' sexual behaviors, including a description of more than 40 combinations of sexual acts that people perform during sexual events, patterns of condom use by adolescents and adults, and the percentage of Americans participating in same-sex encounters.
